Most people do not listen with the intent to understand

Most people do not listen with the intent to understand

I can honestly say I am guilty of listening with the intent to reply. I need to learn how to just sit there and try to understand what is being said especially before I speak. ~ Emily Cornier

Always thought if you are going to listen you give the person your full attention then they know you understand what they are saying then you can reply and know what they are talking about. ~ Karen Freeston

I truly try to listen to people (it’s an honor when they share), block everything else out, and just be present/hear and understand what the things they are saying mean to them, not secretly think what does it have to do with me? or how does it affect me? or what do I have to say once they stop talking? Wow! I can tell when someone is doing that to me and I don’t want to be like that. It’s a good skill to get better at for everyone concerned. I am working to get better at it and I appreciate those opportunities to listen when someone does want me to. ~ Karen Lynne
